An update on the EAR!!!!

So here's a quick update on Austin's poor ear. Last week I took him back into the Dr. because his ear continued to drain despite adding another antibiotic and ear drops and they decided to culture the drainage. Well, on Monday morning they called and said his bug was not covered by the antibiotic he was on so they had to add another one; that makes 3 in 3 weeks!!!! UGH!!!!! So yesterday we all headed back to the ENT office to speak with the Dr. and get Austin's hearing checked. The result of our day was far from good news. As of right now, he has a 20% hearing loss on his left side (which hopefully should correct itself) and we have found out that he has MRSA in his ear (which is a horrible staph infection resistant to many antibiotics). Austin was such a brave boy while the Dr. examined his ear, vacuumed & cleaned it out, and went in a pulled his old tube that was still sitting in the ear canal (might be the culprit for this nasty bug). Where do we go from here????? Well, he switched his ear drop to an antibiotic/steroid combo and we will continue the oral antibiotic until we return to his office AGAIN next week. Then we should hopefully have a plan on whether or not he's gonna go in and put tubes back in and flush and clean his ears out really well with an antibiotic wash. The only difference this time around would be that he would use Titanium ear tubes vs. silicone. Well, that's all for now. Our little man is being such a trooper considering he has been soooooo excited for our new pool to open this summer and he can't go in. We are crossing our fingers that his ear gets better soon.
